Welcome to RiverWatch! Come have a fantastic trip and enjoy the beauty of Cape Cod. The house you are looking at was built in 1927, and has housed four generations of our family. It's a two-bedroom house with two porches and an office overlooking the Nantucket Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. Expansive views of the ocean and the meadows. You can walk to the water's edge right from the house to the marsh (but we don't swim there) or take a 10-minute walk to Forest beach. You can also walk into the village of South Chatham which has a fun family cafe and an upscale restaurant. A short drive north is the village of Chatham known for its band concerts on Friday nights, great seafood, shopping, and art galleries. In the other direction is Harwich with its majestic boat harbors, restaurants, and go-karts. There is a half-bath (toilet) inside the house with a sink, a large sink in the kitchen (I was bathed in it as a baby), and fast, reliable WiFi with a mesh network that typically pulls 300M. We ask that guests bring their own linens and towels, and note that the only shower is a private enclosed outdoor shower. It's fun!
This house is limited to a maximum of 4 people staying overnight and two cars. The house is historic, it's a family road named after us, so infractions are obvious. Please, for both our sake, realize that four people overnight is a hard limit, and not adhering to the terms voids the contract. There are plenty of other houses for larger parties. We are friendly people, and eager to have your vacation be fantastic, but the maximum of 4 overnight guests and 2 cars is a strict line. This house is perfect for a romantic getaway or a single-family vacation.
The Cape is known for its long stretches of beaches. A favorite beach of ours is Hardings Beach, about a 10-minute drive. You can purchase a weekly or daily pass and there is ample parking, lifeguards, toilets, and ice cream trucks. We also suggest that you have a sense of when high and low tide is, as the weather can frequently change with the tide. So what seems like a cloudy day can become sunny when the tide direction flips. There is a reason for the saying “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute…”. Google “cape cod tides” and look for Stage Harbor tide charts. Another excellent beach is Ridgevale, which is a bit closer and has a nice sand bar with water on both sides for those looking for a quieter place to swim or a place to let the little ones explore. Chatham Sailboat operates from Ridgevale for those looking to rent a sailboat or paddleboard.
Sunsets: We love a beach in the town of Orleans called Skaket. It’s on the Bayside of the Cape, so it offers a different experience, including beautiful sunsets. When the tide rolls out at Skaket, the sand bars stretch on and on and on. It’s great for exploring and looking for crabs, and the beach is popular with children for that reason.
Chatham Light Beach: The Chatham Light and Beach offer remarkable views, but parking is difficult and the water is colder because of the direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. We suggest looking but not swimming.
Provincetown & Outer Beaches: For those looking to explore, a drive up route 6 offers a chance to see the outer beaches with their wild sand dunes, and cold rough waters.
Band Concert: A fun family tradition is the Chatham Band Concert that happens every Friday night at 8 pm at the Kate Gould Bandstand in the middle of town. The event is perfect for all ages, and they have dances for the kids. A trip to the Chatham Candy Manor before the band concert makes the evening that much sweeter.

2) Our neighbors are building a house next door, as is their right. Likely most of the work is going to be on the inside by the summer, but this isn't anything we can control. I posted a picture of how the house looks as of March 1 in the broader photos. The house is framed and drywalled, and all the heavy truck foundation work is done. I will gladly share more pictures as the year advances, but the construction is in the area where you park, and doesn't impact the ocean views
